Experience with birth.
Support for your journey.

I’m Talitha Cumi, a full-spectrum birth and postpartum doula. I’m going on a decade of experience supporting mothers across birth settings and life circumstances, and I bring that experience to virtual support for moms throughout Southern California.

Why I do this work

Education is power

Every journey into motherhood is different. My work begins with listening to your questions, understanding what matters to you, and offering compassionate support as you prepare for pregnancy, birth, and the weeks that follow.

I have supported mothers through home births, birth center births, and hospital births, including both unmedicated births and births with medication. Those experiences have shaped my approach: help you understand your options, prepare for conversations with your care team, and make room for your individual preferences.

With SoCal Birth Ed, I bring that perspective to virtual doula support. We can connect from wherever you feel comfortable to talk through your concerns, prepare your support person, and build a practical plan for the next chapter.

Experience across different settings

Many Settings. Many Dynamics.

My in-person birth experience informs the educational and preparatory support I offer virtually.

Home births

Supporting families through the intimate setting of home birth, including fully natural, unmedicated births.

Birth centers

Supporting mothers in a home-like birth center environment, including fully natural, unmedicated births.

Hospital births

Supporting mothers in hospital settings, helping them communicate their wishes while working alongside their medical team.

A range of birth experiences

Support when the journey takes different turns.

My experience includes supporting mothers through:

  • Inductions: offering encouragement and helping mothers understand the questions they want to ask during medically induced labor.
  • VBAC journeys: supporting mothers pursuing vaginal birth after cesarean, alongside the care and guidance of their medical team.
  • Cesarean births: offering emotional support around delivery and the transition into recovery.
  • Pregnancies with higher-risk factors: supporting informed conversations and emotional needs while medical professionals manage clinical care.
  • Pregnancy alongside cancer: providing emotional support and practical assistance through complex circumstances.
What virtual support means

Virtual support.
Built around your schedule.

Virtual doula support is designed to fit around your schedule. Connect from home or another comfortable place, without adding travel time to your day. Together, we can arrange appointments around your work, family responsibilities, and other commitments, subject to availability.

Use our time together to prepare for birth, ask pregnancy questions, explore comfort strategies, or plan for postpartum recovery and newborn needs. Practical, focused support helps you prepare at a pace that fits your life.

Virtual doula support also extends to the day of delivery. Through virtual connection, I can offer encouragement, help you use the comfort strategies we have practiced, support your partner or support person, and help you prepare questions for your medical team during labor and birth. We will discuss how to connect on delivery day when planning your support.

On the day of delivery, we can also talk through the updates your care team shares after each cervical exam. I can help you understand the information they have explained, organize your questions, and navigate conversations about the next steps, including your options, preferences, and any changes to your birth plan. Your doctor or midwife performs and interprets the exam and recommends medical care; my role is to help you feel prepared to participate in those decisions.

Doula support complements the care you receive from your doctor or midwife. It does not replace medical care or emergency services.
